For deleting a revision, use the Admin commands of CVS. They are available when you click on a file and press CTRL-G for the Graph.

Now click on the square box denoting the revision number and right click to get the options available. In the Admin options you have the delete revision. But, for this you have to be present in the Admin group of CVS created when CVS in installed or put yourself in the group cvsadmin.

For deleting a branch, use the following command in the command line of the WinCVS option. This is given in the Admin options Menu of the main WinCVS top bar menus.

cvs tag -d <branch-name>

For deleting a branch, use the following command in the
command line of the WinCVS option. This is given in the Admin
options Menu of the main WinCVS top bar menus.
cvs tag -d <branch-name>
Why go to the commandline for this? This could perfectly well be done
with the "Untag selection" command in WinCvs, too. As a plus you get to
choose the branch name from the tag browser if it's not already in the
history combo...

Cheers,

Oliver

Sorry I am unaware of any such option. I tried to find it also but was unsuccssful. I am using WinCVS 1.3b12.
And the first version of WinCVS I used was WinCVS1.3b8 which gave some problems while retriving files from the server and used to act as if it had got stuck, thus, I changed to WinCVS1.3b190 and then to WinCVS 1.3b12, but the option you have mentiond could not be found in any of these versions.

Could you inform where this option is present, as our developers keep on complaining about the deletion of branches. (they create a branch when they have to create a tag and vice -versa, even though it is in the hands of the Project Repository Manager only.. :-)

WinCvs 1.3b190 ???? Where did you get that from?
Post by Gagneet Singh
Could you inform where this option is present, as our
developers keep on complaining about the deletion of
branches. (they create a branch when they have to create a
tag and vice -versa, even though it is in the hands of the
Project Repository Manager only.. :-)
It's been there as long as I can remember. The only thing that was only
added a bit more recently IIRC was the checkbox for the -B option (aka
"Allow move/delete of branch tag").
The command itself is available either via Modify|Delete a tag... or the
Untag button (a document icon with a crossed out blue "T") right next to
the Tag button.

To Bobby: That -B option (see above) is what you need to make the branch
delete work. I'm not sure however if it was exposed in WinCvs 1.2 yet -
I don't think so. I'm not even sure the cvs.exe client binary that came
with that antique piece of software even supported that option yet as
CVS 1.10.x (which was the target in the olden WinCvs 1.2 days) still
allowed deleting of branch tags without further notice as I had
experienced rather painfully myself back then. Probably your server is
newer than that and requires the -B for deleting branches. It's probably
time for a client upgrade at last... ;)

Hope this helps.

As I said, it should have been -B (-b means "create branch" - obviously
not correct in this case) but obviously your client does not support it
while at the same time your server requires it. What are the version
numbers of your CVS client and server (you could find out both by
issuing the cvs version command on the client)?

Hope this helps.

As per the NEWS file supplied with CVS (and available via

so there's your culprit. If you want to stick with WinCvs 1.2 I
currently don't see any way out apart from additionally installing a

just hope your client machine is not running Win9x/Me because neither

Hi,

I would like to know how to enable the "watch on" function at the server
level.
Is there a configuration file for cvsnt ? I do not find the option in the
service interface.

Thanks.

Best Regards.

Well, you could get WinCvs 1.3.13 from http://sf.net/projects/cvsgui
which is likely to solve all your problems at once or if you have to
stick with WinCvs 1.2 for some time longer and just want to solve the
problem at hand you could get the CVSNT 2.0.6 client binaries from
http://www.cvsnt.org . For client-only the "Precompiled binaries"
package will suffice plus you'll need the MS Runtime libraries if you
haven't got them already. The latter are also available from the CVSNT
front page under the section header "Other dependencies" (near the
bottom of the page). Unpack both archives to a folder on your client and
put that folder in your PATH (although the difference between the full
installer and binaries+runtimes is a mere ~500k so you might just want
to go for the full installer right away and uncheck the server
components upon installation).
Note that this will not affect WinCvs 1.2 as that one always uses its
own CVS client (1.11-ish as you already found out) and didn't support
switching CVS client binaries yet. This means that you'll have to
operate the CVSNT binaries from the commandline. In your scenario you'll
only need to do that for deleting the branch. Everything else will
probably still work from WinCvs 1.2 .

If you're not on Win9x/Me I recommend taking a stab at WinCvs 1.3.x .
It's *much* more up-to-date and can make use of the CVSNT binaries
directly (WinCvs 1.3.13 already comes bundled with CVSNT 2.0.2).

Hope this helps.

In everybody's best interest, please do not post or CC technical
questions to me in private unless they are specifically about a
macro/product of mine that is NOT already bundled with WinCvs.
